We are pleased to announce that the 12 finalists for the 4th edition of The Writer competition have been selected! The Writer competition is an online, “reality” writing competition for young creative writers in Africa.
Having run three successful editions in the past four years, The Writer returns in 2016 for another exciting season. Judging the competition this year are popular African authors, Lauri Kubuitsile (Botswana), Tendai Huchu (Zimbabwe) and our very own Titi Oyinsan (Nigeria)
The call for entries for this year’s edition was announced in February and over 3,000 submissions were received. The writers showed great creativity of thought with themes spanning current affairs, religion, relationships, science fiction and the paranormal.
We are pleased to announce the following twelve finalists of The Writer Competition 2016:
- Osasuyi Okungbowa

The 12 finalists will battle it out online for four weeks starting from the 12th of May, writing stories that the judges and the general public will vote on. Each week, writers will be eliminated until only one winner emerges, to become “The Writer 2016”! The winner will walk away with N200,000 while the two runners up will receive N150,000 and N100,00 respectively plus an opportunity to be published in an anthology put together by The Naked Convos.
Oluwole Talabi, Senior Fiction Editor at The Naked Convos had this to say about this year’s competition:
“It is always great to see how much talent there is in our society. It was not easy to narrow down our twelve finalists but we are confident that we have selected the best and we certainly hope they go on to not only entertain us but also have fun during the competition.”
Founder and Editor of The Naked Convos, Olawale Adetula, added:
“Our mantra at TNC has always been express you. Whether it is through an opinion piece, a short story or even fiction, everyone should get an opportunity and more importantly, a platform to express themselves. Through TNC and The Writer Competition we have created a yet another platform for gifted writers to showcase their talent to the world.”
We say huge congratulations to the finalists and let the competition begin! May the best writer win!
